Subject: African Initiatives
Dear Prof. Utsumi-san:
Congratulations on a successful conference in Tampere! Having followed the work which you put into it, I can only admire your energy.
I am wondering if the African group was able to synthesize concrete action plans and follow-ups, and how I can be involved with such initiatives.
I will be making a presentation the Congressional Black Caucus Legislative Forum on September 15 on Capitol Hill (Washington, DC), as a panelist of the Science and Technology Forum of the Constituency for Africa.
I also have an invitation from the Office of the Executive Director of the UN Economic Commission for Africa to participate in their African Development Forum at their HeadQ. in Addis-Ababa (Ethiopia) in October
I am wondering if I can work with your group to prepare specific proposals in distance education (particularly at the basic school level although other levels are also worthwhile), health, and communications so that we can begin the process of pilot projects on the ground in Africa.
I would be grateful for your comments and suggestions.
With kind regards,
John Afele
