Dear Tita:

==========

(2) Thanks also for your arrangement of a room for our mini-workshop at your university.

I would suggest that you have a room for 25 to, at most, 50 attendees.

An amphitheater type room may be convenient.

An Internet access with 56 Kbps or higher speed may also be desirable in

the room or in any other room for Roger Boston's demonstration of low

cost videoconferencing and Bill Klemm's demonstration on web-oriented

computer mediated conferencing system.

I will discuss the possibility of having telemedicine demo of

echocardiography with Columbia University with Victor later -- see below.

(3) The NSF travel grant for which Kim will apply soon will cover the costs

of travel, hotel and per diem.

Dear Roger:

===========

(4) I would like to have you in Manila. (You may stay there for a while

before you leave for Shanghai.) I am sure that your demo will be very interesting!!

Dear Bill:

==========

(5) Pls demonstrate your FORUM from Manila. We will include you in the list

of our NSF travel grant application.

Dear Roger and Bill:

====================

(6) Pls send me the Items (7)-(a) to (c) below ASAP. Thanks.

Dear Skip and Victoria:

=======================

(7) I would greatly appreciate it if you can kindly accept Tita's request of

your attending this workshop. Pls refer to:

Manila Workshop (March 29-31, 2000) at

<http://www.kagawa-jc.ac.jp/~steve_mc/asia-pacific/index.html>

However, I doubt if the NSF would provide you with the travel grant,

since you are in the US government's military.

Should you accept her request, pls send me the followings ASAP

(preferably by January 30th);

(a) Your full official address (title, division, affiliation, mailing

address, phone/fax, email, and URL, etc.),

(b) A half to one full page of brief descriptive bio,

(c) A half to one full page description of your possible contribution

to our colleagues in Philippines through this project. This is

very important to convince peer group members of the NSF travel

grant program.

Dear Frank and Ken:

===================

(8) I would also greatly appreciate it if you can kindly accept Tita's

request of your attending this workshop.

However, I doubt if the NSF will provide you with the travel grant,

since you are in the US government's organization.

What I am thinking is that, if Victor will succeed to get PictureTel and

ISDN at 384 Kbps, Ken may pan your medical consultation workstation to

show it to the attendees in Manila, and also present your talk while we

will access your web in Manila.

BTW, during my attendance at the WHO conference in Geneva last

week, I mentioned of your system and suggested the delegates from

the WHO in Manila to attend this workshop.

Dear Shin:

==========

(9) Sorry you cannot attend this workshop.

Thanks for your reserving your studio.

I look forward to seeing your new way of echocardiograph telemedicine system.

Dear Clarito:

=============

(10) Many thanks for your cooperation.

Let's hope that Victor will succeed to get a PictureTel and ISDN at 384 Kbps.

As soon as I hear from him, I will let you know if your demo will be possible.

Dear Victor:

============

(11) Many thanks for your recent msgs for which I will reply you soon.

However, I would greatly appreciate it if you can kindly help us to get

a PictureTel and ISDN line at 384 Kbps. Pls talk with Tita and Dr.

Lolit Suplido (ATTACHMENT VI) on this matter. If you can get these

facilities to the conference room, it would be splendid. If you cannot

do that, pls try to find an appropriate site with these facilities.

You may consult on this matter to Dr. Sharma (whom you met last year

with me), Dr. Park and Dr. Ikeda (whom I met at the WHO conference in

Geneva last week).

Dear Tita:

(12) RE: ATTACHMENT VI:

As replied to you before, the workshop dates of March 29 to 31 is fine.

Unfortunately, your new email address did not work (ATTACHMENT VIII).

Pls let me know which of your email I should use.

Dear Everybody:

(13) Many thanks for your cooperation and help.

Best, Tak

Dear Tak,

After meeting with Dr. Art Pesigan and Dr. Lex Librero, we would like to

clarify things regarding the planned mini-workshop at the end of March.

Considering the present financial crisis in the Philippines, we can be

responsible for shouldering the expenses for the following:

1. Venue - a room in the university has been reserved for this

2. Desktop video conferencing - we can not afford a bigger videoconference

even if the technology is available (e.g., Picture Tel, ISDN lines) primarily

due to budget requirements of renting out these facilities from technology

providers and the transmission of the broadcast.

We would also like to make clear that we can not shoulder the accommodations

for the participants. By the way, we are suggesting that the following be invited:

Shin Takuma, MD

Clarito Dimayuga, MD

Frank S. Govern, MBA, PhD

Kenneth M. Kempner

Frederick M. Burkle, Jr., MD, MPH, FAAP, FACEP

Victoria Garshnek, PhD

I hope you understand these limitations and help us work out something for the event.

Thank you.

We have here speeds from 33K to T1, T3, and after February 15

will have bandwidths at speeds above a BILLION bits per second

available for IP conferencing.

QUESTION: Do you want me in Manila? If so I can be present

(10) If you consider that 128 Kbps is sufficient for the use of your FORUM

computer conferencing system, pls demonstrate it from Manila.

128 Kbps is plenty sufficient. I run FORUM all the time over 56 Kbps. But it

is asynchronous. I could demonstrate how one interacts with the databases in

FORUM. How would I do that "from" Manila. I don't have travel funds. Or

would you like to budget me in your NSF application.

Hi Norman,

Happy new year.

Regarding Tak's mini-work shop in manila, I would like to introduce my

co-worker, Dr. Clarito Dimayuga.

Since I won't be able to attend this meeting, Clarito will be responsible

for telemedicine part.

He came from Manila and knows very well in both medicine and network.

Not like in Finland, we may have difficulties to set up network.

Please help him in searching and setting up the system.

He will get in touch with you soon.

Best Regards,

Dear Tak,

We reserved our Audio-Visual studio on March 29.

Clarito will make protocol of Telemedicine presentation within a week and

will up load to your network.

The program we are making is quite an excellent and looks much more useful

than I did in Finland.

Also our new idea is decreasing a burden at site and will be a universal

standard protocol to make a conference in a developing country.

As such, you may introduce our protocol to everybody who wants to produce

the Telemedicine conference.

Dear Dr. Utsumi,

Is the proposed date for the mini-workshop in the Philippines alright with

you? Please let us know so we can proceed with our planning.

As to the present capability of the Philippines, the private telecommunication

company, PLDT, has its own ISP and its ISDN capability is 56 kps up to 1-8. It

is moving into wireless technology within the year.

For this project, may I refer you to my faculty member, Dr. Lolit Suplido, the

Officer-in-Charge of the Online Teaching and Learning Laboratory of the UPOU.

Her email address is: <fhs-upou@mozcom.com.ph>.

May I also inform you that I have a new email address:

<deanfhs@mozcom.com.ph>

I shall be meeting with Dr. Pesigan, Dr. Librero, Dr. Ofrin and Dr. Suplido

within the week to discuss our plans for the mini-workshop.

Thanks.

(1) Many thanks for your msg.

(2) As mentioned in my previous msg to you, the date is fine -- we try

it anyway in relation with the NSF's travel grant application from

Montana State University/Bozeman.

(3) Pls inform me the precise speed of your Internet line and ISDN line

to outside world.

(4) Can you find PictureTel videoconferencing unit?

(5) I am now leaving for WHO in Geneva and be back in the pm of 1/19th.

I hope to receive the results of your talk with other people on this

workshop matters.
