Dear Dr. Alvear and Dr. Halo:
=============================

(1)  It was my great pleasure to speak with you over the phone a few hours ago.

(2)  We will hold a mini-workshop at the University of Philippines/Open
University in Manila with possible participations of St. Luke School of
Medicine, WHO/Manila, Asia Development Bank, etc. (date is not set yet).

See (5)-(d)-3 below about the pilot project which will be
          brainstormed during this workshop.

Our colleagues there encountered with severe budget cut.  We would like
to respectfully request your generous help to them, particularly for the
necessary expenditures to conduct demonstrations of tele-medicine and
     tele-learning.

I am an honorary member of the Japanese Medical Society of
America.  This society often provides similar financial help to
young medical students.  I wonder if there is similar medical
society for Filipino doctors in North America which may be able to
          help our colleagues in Manila.

Pls feel free to contact Dr. Teresita I. Barcelo on this matter who is
in charge of this event in Manila.

(3)  The telepresence demonstration with echocardiography will be performed
at the workshop by the Presbyterian Hospital of Columbia University in
New York.  The echocardiograph image of a patient on a tread mill in
Manila will be sent to the Presbyterian Hospital for diagnosis, as we
did during our Tampere event in Finland last August (*).  However, this
time, the 3D image of his heart will also be constructed as an upgraded
feature, which can be cut into a half to examine its inside.  The images
will be disseminated to the participants around the world via ISDN and
     Internet.

(*)  We performed telemedicine demonstration during our
International Workshop/Conference on  Emerging Global Electronic
Distance Learning (EGEDL)," August 9th - 13th, 1999, at the
University of Tampere, Finland <http://www.uta.fi/EGEDL/> (**),
which was financed by the World Bank, US National Science
          Foundation, British Council, etc.

(**) Pls click Roger Boston's web in the home page of this site.
Then, click August 9 in the left column.

You can then click Telemedicine1 and Telemedicine2 at the top of
the right-hand side column to view video clipping of our
echocardiograph demonstration with the Presbyterian Hospital with
PictureTel via ISDN at 384 Kbps.

In this home page, pls also click "FINAL REPORT OF THE
CONFERENCE."  Then go to "IV. Compilation of comments:" in PART I.
Then click Shin Takuma on October 8th.  You can then find Dr.
Takuma's (Presbyterian Hospital) report of this demonstration.

In PART II of this final report, you can also find drafts of
pilot project proposals by groups in Asia-Pacific, North
America, Central America, Amazonas, European and African regions.

(4)  FYI, we are now forging ahead to establish a Global University System
with global broadband Internet which are to be financed with Global
     Service Trust Fund (GSTF).  Pls visit following URLs for more information;

Dear Dr. Utsumi:

it was a pleasure to meet you recently in Tokyo.

As I suggested, perhaps you will be able to have sponsors
through the many Filipino chambers of commerce and Filipino
organizations based abroad.

This is a web site that lists Filipino-American professional
organizations in the States - perhaps this will be a source of
sponsorship? http://www.phil-net.com/nprof.htm .From this site there may
be useful links to other potential sponsors.

Kind regards

penelope price
