(1) Dear Ihor:
==========
I was very delighted to receive a msg from Tapio yesterday
saying that
Paul Lefrere (Open University) could host the European follow-up
meeting in about a month or so after Tak and I have agreed
on the Final
Report to InfoDev. I also am drafting a proposal of GUS to
be registered
in Finland."
As I suggested to you in my listserve msg on 8/29th (see
ATTACHMENT I),
I would be very happy if you can draft a fund raising application
for
this mini-workshop at the Open University (including administration
and
travel grant for the attendees, etc.). Pls send it to me
-- I would be
happy to work on it with you. It will then be forwarded
to Tapio, Antti
and Paul for Paul's submission to appropriate funding sources
(see
ATTACHMENT II).
Since Tapio and I want to send out our final report to
the InfoDev in a
month or so, this mini-workshop can be held in three to four
months from
now. Subsequently, I would greatly appreciate it if you
can kindly take
your action ASAP. Thanks.
As requested in my previous msg, pls send me the
draft of your
pilot project proposal for the European Region operation
in the
InfoDev format at your earliest convenience. This is
to be
included in our report to InfoDev, so that you may work
on this
first. If you do so, you may use it for your fund raising
application for the mini-workshop.
(2) Dear Jusri:
===========
As mentioned in my msg of 8/29th, pls attend this mini-workshop
and
solicit interest of the members of your Distance Education
Network of
the European Association for International Education to our
project.
(3) Dear Sally:
===========
Thank you very much for the brochure of your conference
in Cape Town,
South Africa.
When I tried to visit your web site, an error msg
came out saying
that Error 404: Not found - file doesn't exist or is
read
protected [even tried multi]."
Pls attend this mini-workshop at the Open University also.
Best, Tak

from
My listserve distribution on August 29, 1999
I am very happy to know that you plan to hold a follow-up workshop/conference
to our Tampere event in the year 2001 in Ukraine.
I would suggest that you may have a small workshop at Open
University, if Paul
agrees to entertain it.
1. Purpose: to prepare your workshop/conference in 2001,
and if
possible, to construct more detailed plan for Europe
Group, e.g.,
feasibility study, design of infra- and administrative
structure,
selection of coursewares, etc.
2. Duration: for up to 3 days,
3. Total number of attendees -- about a dozen or less,
4. No workshop, demonstration, opening session, presentations
on
infrastructure, but may have session keynote speakers,
5. Time: sooner the better, but depending on the travel
fund for this
small workshop, which may be raised preferably from
European
sources through Open University -- for which application
you may
work together with Tapio, basing on this mission statement,
6. Expected results:
a. Outline of programs of the workshop/conference
in 2001 in
Ukraine,
b. Fund raising proposal for your workshop/conference
in 2001,
c. Detailed pilot project (or Concept Development")
proposal
of Europe Group for major funding.

Dear all
I was in the USA until this morning so have been unable to
contact you and
to say again how much I enjoyed the workshop.
I agree with your suggestions and look forward to working on
the proposal
and helping to find funds for it.
Ihor mentioned the InfoDev call for proposals. I asked an American
friend
to find out what remained in the 1999 budget for that call. Here
is what
he reports...

>
>I spoke with Mike Potashnik (Head of the Education & Technology
Group,
>and a personal friend) from the World Bank yesterday. The
Conference fund
>that originated with the INFODEV program has already exhausted
its resources.

>They may or may not get renewed funding next year, according
to Mike.
In my opinion, Michael Potashnik will find it easier to get
renewed
funding if we work up our ideas into a proposal which he can show
to
others.
Best wishes
Paul
