During our Tampere event, Lane and Ken agreed with my suggestion to make
the enhancement of the Leland program as the US/Japan joint project
which John's msg of ATTACHMENT II referred to Lane's deliberations which
Lane promised to me during our Tampere event. We hope that our Canadian
colleagues and governmental agencies will participate in our Global
University System project which will be headed by Tapio Varis as the
Acting President.

Looking into the future, we believe that the distance learning and
healthcare would need broadband Internet, especially wireless (including
digital satellite) broadband Internet to reach remote/rural areas in
developing countries.

This subsequently requires huge investment which can come only from
governmental sources, -- hence our attempt to create the Global Service
Trust Fund (GSTF) -- see "Global University Background Documents" at the web site of the above (10)-(a).

In order to appeal to the government of G7 countries, we are now forming
Global University System, a coalition of regional groups in the
Asia/Pacific, North, Central and South America, Europe and Africa -- see
Proposed Outline of the Global University System Structure" at the web
site
of the above (10)-(a).

(11) I hope the above will help your report writing.

Pls feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.

Best, Tak

Dear Tak,

Mr. John Pearce, Councellor Commercial, from the Canadian Embassy in
Helsinki visited me and wanted more information of GUS. He would also like
to have the names of our contacts to CIDA. Could you provide him with this
information (I remembered Mr. Pierre Patrick but have all my files in
H╔─meenlinna now). He is going to write a report of our Global University
System and needs that information soon. His e-mail address is above. Best
wishes,

Dear Prof. Utsumi-san:

My trip to Washington was very successful. I met many people with
whom we share similar goals and ideals. Lane was on my panel, and so
were Prof. Raymond Akwule of George Mason University, and Lauri
Fitz-Pegado (Vice President, corporate affairs and communications of
Iridum). John Mack was also present, and many others. Lane is going
to inform you of deliberations there while him and I will draft a
short project summary.
