Dear Peter:
===========

(1) Many thanks for your msg (ATTACHMENT I) with regard to our presentation
of GSTF project at the InfoDev of the World Bank on 10/19th.

(2) At your suggestion, I uploaded Alex Rivas's PowerPoint slides (English version) to;

http://www.friends-partners.org/GLOSAS/Manaus%20Workshop/Alex_slides_6-2-00/index.htm

It is titled Technology and Distance Education for Sustainable Development of the Amazonia."

Dear Peter and Riva:
====================

(3) In a separate email, I am sending you the file of the slides.

(4) Although I will not be able to use all of the slides during my limited
(10 minutes) presentation on 10/19th, pls store the file into your computer.

Dear Peter:
===========

(5) Alex has already prepared this project in the draft of the InfoDev grant
application format about a year ago, which you can retrieve as;

(a) Visiting our Tampere event at <http://www.uta.fi/EGEDL/>,

(b) Clicking FINAL REPORT OF THE CONFERENCE, and

(c) Clicking Amazonas Region Group:" in PART II.

(6) During my attendance at the ICDE/ABED conferences in Sao Paulo in the
last August, Fred Litto and I had a mtg with Silas Guedes do Oliveira,
Vice-Reitor of the Universidade do Amazonas.

I was sorry you missed the mtg at that time.

I suggested him to combine Alex Rivas' slides and InfoDev application
draft, and come up a revised one for the feasibility study/market survey
at about $250,000 (tentative).

Jim Savage, President of the US National Committee of the
International Institute of Communications (IIC), indicated his
willingness to help on these study and survey -- see his web site.

Dear Jim:
=========

Many thanks for your msg (ATTACHMENT II).

Since this will include a community development in Manaus, Silas told me
that he would talk with the rector of his university and a Amazon state
government officials and will invite me for further discussion soon.

I am hoping this will take place in conjunction with UNAMAZ mtg in
Caracas, Venezuela from 11/26th to 11/29th.

The infrastructure would be the combination (or extension) of the
wireless scheme of Global Broadband Internet (GBI) I depicted at

<http://www.friends-partners.org/GLOSAS/Tampere_Conference/Global_Broadband_Internet/Global_Broadband_Diagram.html> and

LINCOS (which is a joint project of M.I.T. and Hewlett-Packard) -- see its slides at <http://www.friends-partners.org/GLOSAS/Manaus%20Workshop/HTML%20Presentation%20folder/index.htm>

and its web site at <http://www.lincos.net/>.

During my attendance at the IIC conference in Tampa, FL last month, John
Eger also indicated his willingness to help our project with his
experience of community development in California -- see his web at

<http://www.smartcommunities.org/>.

Dear Riva:
==========

(7) Pls make sure that you will have a PC which can access the above web
sites during our presentations on 10/19th.

Dear Peter:
===========

(8) As you see, we are getting quite ready to conduct the feasibility study
and market survey for the Manaus people.

I hope that Carlos Braga would appreciate this direction.

Best, Tak

Well, Tak, if this is to be an infoDev project, they would presumably have to
apply for it. Therefore their ideas should be solicited. I would think your
pilot would be designed as an infoDev project, using the criteria and forms
available from the infoDev website, with which you are familiar. Then you
would cut down and summarize for the presentation. This could be a first draft
-- but wouldn't it be nice to had Carlos this draft for comment after the
meeting, or if there are comments in the Q&A, after taking them into consideration?

Cheers,

Peter

Dear Dr. Utsumi,

It was a great pleasure to meet you at the IIC Tampa Bay meeting. I
appreciate being on your e-mail list and find the Global University project
fascinating. How might RainCoast Group help???

You have noted a feasibility study and market survey. Depending on the
specifics of the project, I am quite sure we would be able to conduct these
activities and provide you with a good foundation to launch the network. We
would be pleased to put together a Scope of Work for this project, but
will need further information.

Again, it was a pleasure speaking with you and I look forward to being
involved in this exciting venture.

Best regards,
Jim Savage
