Dear Myran:

(1) Many thanks for your msg (ATTACHMENT I) with a revised directory of the
attendees of your excellent AAOU conference.

Dear Lex and Myran:

(2) Albeit belated, I wholeheartedly congratulate you for your very
successful conference. I thoroughly enjoyed attending it.

Particularly, the round table discussions on different topics of
distance learning and rotating the tables were good ideas.

Dear Joan and AAOU attendees:

(3) One of the subjects was on the code of ethics for distance education
which round table was headed by Joan, if I recall correctly.

At that time, I mentioned the same made by the Brazilian Association
of Distance Education.

Pls retrieve;

A Code of Ethics for Distance Education:
Brazilian Association for Distance Education
Approved by the General Assembly of the Association
(17 August 2000 in Sao Paulo, Brazil)

This was supplied by Fred Litto when I attended his ICDE/ABED
conferences in Sao Paulo, Brazil last August.

Dear Ulrich:

(4) Many thanks for your msg (ATTACHMENT II) with a very interesting paper
and PowerPoint slides.

I downloaded them safely and will read it through later.

Dear Nancy:

(5) Your presentation was also very impressive.

As asked during the AAOU conference, I would greatly appreciate it if
you can kindly send me the file of your PowerPoint slides.

Dear Dr. Thaman:

(6) Your keynote speech was very impressive, also.

As asked at that time, I would greatly appreciate it if you can send me
a copy of your speech, since it is not available in the CD-ROM of the conference.

Dear Moti:

(7) We were sorry to have missed your keynote speech at the AAOU conference
in Manila last month.

I hope to meet you again next spring in Manila and wish to have your
continuing support for our endeavors.

Dear Horace:

(8) Many thanks for your msg (ATTACHMENT IV).

It was certainly my great pleasure to have met you again in Manila last month.

Pls help our colleagues in Manila for their preparation of our planned
workshop in next May.

Dear Jesus, John, Ralph, Ofelia and Carmen:

Albeit belated, I express my great appreciation for your cooperation and
hospitality during my stay in Manila.

Dear Jesus, Ofelia, Ralph and Carmen:

DRAFT: Travel Grant Application, Mini-Workshop for Pilot Project
of Global University System in the Philippines for Tele-learning
and Tele-Health/Tele-Medicine at St. Luke College of Medicine and
The University of Philippines/Open University Manila, Philippines

You can find Lex's support email of the workshop in the "ANNEX
III: Foreign Counterpart Endorsement."

Pls send me yours at your earliest convenience.

Dear Carmen:

Pls obtain it from the Father of the University of Santo
Thomas whom I visited by your introduction. Thanks.

Dear Dr. Assifi:

(10) I am writing to you by the kind introduction of Horace Crowe.

Pls visit my PowerPoint slides

"Three GLOSAS Projects" -- Slide show (revised) at AAOU on
10/27/00 (NOTE: These slides [made by Microsoft Office: Mac 2001]
should be viewed with Internet Explorer rather than Netscape
because of the compatibility problem.)

which can be retrieved at http://www.friends-partners.org/GLOSAS/Manila%20Workshop/AAOU_Manila_1-27-00_copy/GLOSAS+WS+USPNet_Folder/GLOSAS+WS+USPNet.htm

(11) Slide 17 is the "WorldSpace Satellite Constellation" and Slide 18 is the
footprints of their three satellites -- one of which has already been in use
for Asian countries. I understand that the Vietnamese have already been using it.

This is a digital broadcasting satellite. The receiver is a Yagi
antenna and a card into a PC at $200/unit.

WorldSpace provides 5% of its capacity for humanitarian projects
free of charge and SATELLIFE in Massachusetts now uses it over Africa
for telehealthcare and health informatics.

You may be interested in using it for your distance learning. Pls feel
free to contact D.K. Sachdev.

(12) Pls feel free to contact me if we can be of any help to your project.

Dear Idris:

(13) Many, many thanks for your msg (ATTACHMENT V).

What a shame I did not recognize you when we sat next each other at the
luncheon table!! My record says that we did indeed meet at the
Electronic Information Exchange System (EIES) of the New Jersey
Institute of Technology on 7/28/87!! I must have certainly been getting
quite OLD since then!!

(14) I read your very interesting paper "The Issue of High Technology and
Human Touch in Open Learning and Distance Education" out of the CD-ROM
of the AAOU conference.

Pls let me know if our wireless and satellite broadband Internet project
can be of any help to your development -- see our "Reference web sites:" at http://www.friends-partners.org/GLOSAS/Global_University/Global%20University%20System/Reference_web_sites.html

I was concerned what a lady who sat next to you said that most of your
students are still using 28.8 Kbps modem -- although I know that your
country is a pioneer of analog satellite distance education with the use
of Palapa satellites, you may need to transform it to affordable and
accessible asynchronous web-based education via broadband Internet for
outreach learners.

In the US, the usage of such analog satellite distance education
has been declining to one third of the once peak-time usage. Also,
broadband Internet gives you more readily the interactivity which
your paper emphasized for the advanced distance learning.

Pls view my PowerPoint slides

in "Reference web sites:" at http://www.friends-partners.org/GLOSAS/Global_University/Global%20University%20System/Reference_web_sites.html

particularly, LINCOS project which can provide 4 Mbps at
$200/month for two-way satellite Internet connection.

You may also consider using WorldSpace satellite over your area free of
charge -- see above Item (11).

Keep in touch.

Best, Tak

Thank you for this informative note. I had to take an unplanned trip to
