final report of the US Web-Based Education Commission.

(3) It is significant that the commission will urge the new Administration
and the 107th Congress to make e-learning a centerpiece of the nation's education policy.

This means that the day of our Global University System project is now
coming -- finally, after, at least, twenty years' endeavor!!

The Web-based Education Commission will release its report at a press
conference scheduled for DECEMBER 19, 2000, at 1:00 p.m. in the Holeman
Lounge at the National Press Club, 529 14th St., NW, Washington, DC. The
press conference is open to the public.

"The Power of the Internet for Learning: Moving from Promise to Practice" is
the most comprehensive congressional analysis to date on e-learning at the
K-12, higher education, and corporate training levels. Copies of the report
will be posted on the Commission's Web site, http://www.webcommission.org,
to coincide with the release.

Senator Bob Kerrey of Nebraska, chair of the Commission, and Georgia
Representative Johnny Isakson, vice chair, will present the findings of the
Commission and its recommendations. They will urge the new Administration
and the 107th Congress to make e-learning a centerpiece of the nation's education policy.

In a panel discussion to follow, Senator Kerrey and Rep. Isakson will be joined by

BACKGROUND ABOUT THE COMMISSION

Congress established the Web-based Education Commission to ensure that all
learners can take full advantage of the educational promise of the World
Wide Web. The Commission has conducted a thorough study of the critical
pedagogical and policy issues affecting the development and use of web-based
content and learning strategies to improve achievement at the K-12 and
postsecondary levels.

The Commission is required to present its findings to the Congress,
President, and nation by the end of 2000. The Commission is composed of 16
members who were selected by the President, Secretary of Education, and
congressional leadership.
